What was established in the 2023 edition?
Climate Week NYC 2023 (17–25 September) has been confirmed that the projected average temperature increase of 1.5 degrees Celsius is now two degrees Celsius even if zero carbon emissions are achieved between 2060 and 2080. The same is true for CO2 emissions, which are still too high for the future, as confirmed during the talks.
There was also positive news such as increased investment in renewable energies worldwide. Work is also being carried out on a new value chain emissions tracker to find out how to reduce scope 3 emissions. The State of New York has also confirmed extensive investment in improving emissions, including the purchase of sustainable cement.
Iberdrola, leading climate action
The Iberdrola Group, a world leader in the fight against climate change, was part of the New York Climate Week 2023 (held from 17 to 25 September). The event represented global opportunity to join efforts to accelerate climate action and assess the progress of this commitment ahead of COP 28, held in Dubai from 30 November to 12 December 2023.
Issues around the energy transition and transport , emerging trends towards net zero, and the green economy are part of the current debate to drive climate action. That's why New York Climate Week creates an ambitious platform to bring together the most influential leaders from business, government and the climate community, along with the UN General Assembly and the City of New York, to explore what the international response to today's multiple interconnected crises should be.
