The Women's Universe Tour gives its full support to adapted sport

  • Eva Moral and Desiree Vila offer their reflections on the Paralympic Games in the third and final instalment of the first digital version of the tour
  • The programme, which also features an exhibition by gymnast Cristina Korniychuck, will be broadcast on Teledeporte on Saturday afternoon

The European Adapted Triathlon champion, Eva Moral, is one of the athletes invited to the third broadcast of the Women's Universe Tour, a programme that forms part of “Women's Universe”, an initiative sponsored by the National Sports Council and the Youth Sport Foundation and promoted by Iberdrola, which will be broadcast on the Teledeporte channel this Saturday at 6:20 p.m. “We are told that we are Paralympic or disabled athletes. Sport is sport. It doesn't matter if you're in a wheelchair, whether you're a man or a woman, or if you're 20 or 30 years old. Sport doesn't understand any of that, just effort, discipline and sacrifice. Sport without surnames”, commented the triathlete during her interview.

In this episode we will also see how the adapted athlete Desiree Vila, current Spanish 100 metre and long jump champion, is standing up to training again since the CAR facilities in Madrid reopened after the break due to Covid-19: "The first time I went back, it was totally amazing."

For her part, Ángeles Santamaría, CEO of Iberdrola Spain, pointed out the importance of promoting women's sport through the Women's Universe Tour: “We are participating in this initiative for the fourth consecutive year and support the work of a total of sixteen sports federations because we are convinced that through sport and the commitment of our athletes we will continue to advance towards equal opportunities. And we are going to create reference points, which are really needed right now, that are associated with the values of effort, teamwork and inclusion.”

Broadcasting this content on Teledeporte (it is also available on the usual digital channels) upholds the goal of the Women's Universe Tour, which is to promote the presence of women in sports and the recognition of their efforts and successes. This new online event is intended to raise public awareness of women as an active and fundamental part of sport in Spain.

Iberdrola, the main driving force behind the ‘Women's Universe’ programme

The Women's Universe Tour is part of the National Sports Council (Consejo Superior de Deportes, or 'CSD') ‘Women's Universe’ programme. Iberdrola has been the main driving force behind this programme since July 2016. As part of its agreement with the CSD, Iberdrola is supporting 16 sports federations selected for the extraordinary level of success achieved, the high participation rate, the existence of programmes to promote the sport at the grassroots level and other social projects. Iberdrola is the first company to make a global commitment to encouraging women’s participation in sport as a way of promoting equal opportunities – a pledge that reflects the basic values of the company. By getting behind women's sport, the company is helping to create new role models for society and encourage healthy habits at an early age.
