More than 1,000 women have already been trained at Iberdrola’s Electricians’ School in Brazil

More than a thousand women have been trained at the Electricians School of Neoenergia, Iberdrola’s subsidiary in Brazil, a pioneering initiative in the country, recognised as a global example by WeEmpower, a programme of UN Women together with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union.

The company celebrated this milestone in style at the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil, with the attendance of its head, Alexandre Silveira; the First Lady of the Republic, Rosângela Janja da Silva; and the CEO of Neoenergia, Eduardo Capelastegui, who were also accompanied by electricians from the company.

Neoenergia’s School of Electricians has already trained 1,038 women professionals out of a total of 6,084 participants in its five concession areas: Neoenergia Brasília (Federal District), Neoenergia Coelba (Bahia), Neoenergia Cosern (Rio Grande do Norte), Neoenergia Elektro (São Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul) and Neoenergia Pernambuco (Pernambuco). Of the trainees, 691 have been recruited and are already part of the workforce.
