The 137th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in the United Kingdom, held at One Great George Street, Westminster (London), brought together more than 240 representatives of the British and Spanish business sector and civil society. The event, one of the most important of the year for the Chamber, had as its guest of honour, Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower, who highlighted the importance of energy collaboration between Spain and the United Kingdom.

During his speech, Anderson said that the merger between Iberdrola and ScottishPower is “an example of the strong and enduring partnership between Spain and the UK” and stressed that “over the last 15 years, Iberdrola has invested more than £30 billion here: in the infrastructure, equipment, supply chain, communities and employees that make our company what it is today”.

As a result, Iberdrola and ScottishPower are “now one of the largest green energy investors in the UK that can deliver all the green energy we are going to need”. Anderson concluded his speech by reaffirming ScottishPower and Iberdrola’s commitment to continue working closely with the UK to develop a greener, more secure and affordable energy system and that across the UK and the world, “electrification is unstoppable”.

“We firmly believe in the long-term contribution we can make to a greener, more secure and affordable energy system in the UK, helping to build ever stronger links between Spain and the UK every step of the way,” he said.

The Ambassador of Spain, His Excellency Mr Jose Pascual Marco also spoke about the importance of Spanish investment in the UK and welcomed the investment and commitment that Iberdrola had made to the UK over many years.

Scottish Power is leading the way in helping the green transition in the United Kingdom. Ahead of the next UK General Election on 4th July, ScottishPower is calling on the next UK Government to give the green light for growth, and has set out 10 steps to turbo charge green investment in the UK including; calling for the speeding up of planning for green projects, doubling down on grid investment and faster permitting for onshore repowering of windfarms.
