During his speech at the Main Hall of the USAL, the President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, stated that "we do not have the right to dissolve a national and regional coexistence model we have built together. If we do this, we will start to go adrift".
Manuel Marín, former commissioner of Social Affairs and current President of Fundación Iberdrola Spain, also received an honorary doctorate from Salamanca University (USAL), although he could not attend the ceremony for personal reasons.
