David Mesonero, Iberdrola's Director of Corporate Development, received the award for the best business transaction for the sale of combined cycle plants in Mexico from El Economista, which recognised the management of the sale of combined cycle gas plants in Mexico for $6.2 B.
The transaction involved the sale of 13 generation plants with an installed capacity of 8,539 MW, of which 99% were combined cycle gas plants and 87% plants operating under the Independent Power Producer regime, with contracts with the CFE. The transaction involved the disposal of 55% of the company's business in the country in terms of EBITDA, although the electricity company maintains all its contracts with private customers in the country. Iberdrola also has a portfolio of renewable projects in Mexico worth $6 B.
On 2 December, the newspaper El Economista held its 14th 'La Noche de la Economía' awards, which each year recognises the most relevant projects in the Spanish economic and financial sector. The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, was in charge of putting the finishing touch on the evening.
During the celebration, David Mesonero acknowledged the efforts and dedication of Iberdrola's entire Corporate Development team. "In just two financial years, this team has signed more than 34 corporate transactions, worth more than €17B in enterprise value attributable to the company, and has allowed us to bring our Strategic Plan for Partnerships and Asset Turnover forward by two years. This award motivates us to continue with our mission to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient future," he said.
This event was originally scheduled for 5 November but, out of solidarity and respect for the victims and those affected by the cold drop, the newspaper decided to postpone it to this new date.
