Iberdrola selected for 385 million euro Federal Capacity Contract in Maine

Iberdrola, through its US subsidiary Avangrid, has been selected by the US Department of Energy (DOE) as a candidate to negotiate a $425 million (around €385 million) grid access capacity contract for its Aroostook transmission project in Maine. The decision is part of the state agency's Transmission Facilitation Program (TFP).

The Aroostook project involves the construction of a new substation in Haynesville, Maine and a 345 kV, 111-mile (about 178 km), 1,200 MW capacity alternating current transmission line connecting to the New England grid. It will also include a new 38.5-mile (almost 62 km) 345 kV overhead line. This infrastructure would provide the New England region with access to low-cost, high-quality renewable energy generated in northern Maine, but would also create jobs, develop the local economy and many other community benefits.
