Iberdrola joins the summer sports circuit at the fifth annual Beach Volley Tour
- This agreement forms part of the ‘Women’s Universe’ initiative of which Iberdrola is the main driving force
Iberdrola, the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation and Madison today presented the ‘Madison Beach Volley Tour’ (MBVT) beach volleyball circuit at an event held at the Madrid headquarters of the National Sports Council (CSD). This championship is set to start on 29 June and will feature the best players from this particular sporting discipline.
The competition, occurring for the fifth time, was presented by Iberdrola’s partner in the ‘Women’s Universe’ initiative, Noelia Florín; the general director of Sports of the CSD, Jaime González, and the Chairman of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation, Agustín Martín.
They were joined by two of the best current Spanish players, Nazaret Florián and Christian García, who gave their take on a circuit that has not stopped growing since it first came into being and that in 2017 is making every possible effort to ensure more women take part with the incorporation of Iberdrola as the main sponsor of the women’s circuit.
This year the circuit is celebrating its fifth anniversary with the addition of two new events. The Barcelona International Open, which forms part of the European Volleyball Confederations’ WEZA circuit and the Isla Canela International Open join forces with the MBVT 2017 to complete an absolutely top-notch schedule that still features all the traditional venues such as Laredo, Valencia, Tarragona and Fuengirola, which will once more play host to the Spanish National Championships.
The first round of the MBVT 2017 will be held in Barcelona between 29 June and 2 July, before the circuit moves on to Valencia, 6-9 July, followed by Ayamonte, 21-23 July; Laredo, 27-30 July; Tarragona, 10-13 August, before reaching a climax at the marvellous facilities of the Reserva del Higuerón Resort, in Fuengirola, where the Spanish National Championships will be held between 31 August and 3 September.
This year the circuit includes an additional venue -taking it up to six- and the aim is to keep incorporating more Spanish beaches over the next few years. Furthermore, the organisers are pleased to announce a 12% increase in prize money with respect to last year in both the male and female categories.
Iberdrola, the main driving force behind the ‘Women's Universe’ programme
The agreement signed for women's volleyball in Spain in December 2016 is an addition to the agreement that, since July of last year, has led to Iberdrola becoming the main driving force behind Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) 'Universo Mujer' (Women's Universe) programme and being the first company to commit to promoting women's participation in all areas of sport.
By virtue of this agreement with Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) Iberdrola now supports various sports federations, including those of gymnastics, swimming, football, triathlon, badminton, canoeing, rugby, handball, volleyball and hockey, and more may well be added in the future. These sports were selected on account of the extraordinary level of success they have achieved, the high participation rate, the existence of schemes to promote the sports at the grass-roots level and the existence of other social projects.
