  • Iberdrola, with its strategic commitment to the economy’s electrification, encourages its suppliers to set goals and adopt commitments to decarbonise their processes by implementing specific action plans.

Iberdrola won in the category of 'Best Practice in the Industry' at the Alcance 3.0 Awards organised by CPOnet. This association is a social network that connects more than 20,000 professionals in procurement.

This is the first edition of these awards, which recognise the work of those companies whose close collaboration with their strategic suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is outstanding.

The awards were presented at the Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid and were attended by Jordi Hereu, Minister of Industry and Tourism, and Antonio Garamendi, President of the Business Owners’ Association (CEOE), among others. Ignacio Sanchez-Galán, Iberdrola's Global Purchasing and Services Director, accepted the award on behalf of Iberdrola España.

Iberdrola’s Climate Action Plan lays out an ambitious roadmap to achieve neutrality by 2030 for CO2 equivalent emissions in scopes 1 – direct emissions from a company or organisation's fuel consumption – and 2 – indirect emissions from power purchased– and net zero emissions by 2040 for all scopes, including scope 3 – which includes the remaining indirect emissions in the value chain –.

Integrated model

The plan defines the levers and associated actions that contribute to decarbonising the economy as a whole, as well as the values, tools and indicators on which that is based.

To achieve this commitment to reduce emissions, Iberdrola is promoting and leading a business model and an investment plan that are fully integrated with a decarbonised future. The company is moving forward with its €47 billion investment plan until 2025 and consolidating its business model based on more renewable energy, more grids, more storage and more smart solutions for customers.

This is a recognition of Iberdrola for standing out in scope 3 actions among companies in the power industry. The Basque electricity company acts as a major driver of carbon footprint reduction in its value chain and promotes the ripple effect of its actions, contributing to the acceleration of the energy transition.

Iberdrola initiated the energy transition more than 20 years ago and has established itself as a global benchmark in climate action and clean energy.

Since 2008, Iberdrola has verified its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with AENOR in accordance with the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard for direct and indirect emissions from all of its activities. In addition, it has incorporated the life cycle perspective into its management model, which includes knowledge of impacts throughout the value chain. Every year, new elements are incorporated into the calculation of its scope 3. This information is available in the annually published GHG Report.
