Iberdrola receives the go-ahead from the Brazilian government to generate more clean energy in Fernando de Noronha

Through its company in Brazil, Neoenergia, Iberdrola will allocate nearly €50 M to generate clean energy in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, through photovoltaic technology and battery storage.

The initiative is part of the Noronha Verde project and will cut greenhouse gas emissions from local energy generation by 85%. It also includes energy efficiency measures.

Most of the energy currently consumed there comes from thermal generation fuelled by biodiesel. This project makes an important contribution to the energy transition by replacing polluting fossil fuels with clean energy.
