Galician businessmen recognise Ignacio Galán for his promotion of the Galician industrial fabric in the renewables sector

The Confederation of Businessmen of La Coruña (CEC) has recognised the work of the chairman of the Iberdrola group, Ignacio Galán, in the development of the offshore wind industry and its auxiliaries in Ferrolterra, as well as Iberdrola’s role as a driving force for Galicia to advance towards the use of its maximum renewable capacities, in line with the new European Green Deal.

The event was held this Friday and was attended by a representative of the Galician economic fabric, business organisations and authorities such as the president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi, and the president of the Galician Regional Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

  • The distinction was proposed by the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Ferrolterra, Eume and Ortegal and according to Garamendi was intended to recognise Galan's “commitment”, “especially to the Ferrol region, where his work has been key in the development of the offshore wind industry and its auxiliaries.”
  • The president of the CEC, Antonio Fontenla, thanked Iberdrola for making Galicia “an industrial benchmark for offshore wind power” by awarding contracts to local suppliers like Navantia, which will manufacture components for future offshore wind farms around the world. Its factories also manufacture foundations for parks already under development, such as Wikinger and Saint-Brieuc.
  • Iberdrola has been operating in Galicia for several decades, where it has become established as the leading renewable energy company by managing more than 2,000 green megawatts. It also has more than 200 suppliers in the region which, according to Galán, it hopes to “continue to increase in the coming years in line with our plan to make Galicia a hub for the development of the energy transition within the Next Generation EU programme.”.
  • These projects could mobilise 4.4 billion euros and generate 20,000 jobs in cutting-edge areas such as hydroelectric storage, wind and floating offshore energy, electric mobility and renewable hydrogen for the industrial production of green methanol.
