Iberdrola has completed the planning approval process for the Windanker offshore wind farm and received the positive decision from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH). The project has thus reached an important milestone and is now moving towards the start of construction in the German Baltic Sea. The manufacturing of the 21 foundation structures (monopiles and transition pieces) is being carried out by the Spanish company Windar and is on schedule. In the summer, the foundations of the wind farm will be erected at sea, and the installation of the internal park cabling will also begin this year.

Felipe Montero, CEO of Iberdrola Germany, emphasizes: "With the approval of the BSH, we have come a big step closer to realizing our Baltic Hub in the German Baltic Sea. In total, our three wind farms will have a total capacity of 1.1 GW. We are continuing our growth course and clearly demonstrating Iberdrola's commitment to the German renewable energy market."

Windanker will be equipped with 21 new generation SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa, each with an output of around 15 MW. The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 315 megawatts (MW), which corresponds to the supply of 315,000 households, and will go into operation in 2026. Thanks to extensive experience in the Baltic Sea and the use of the latest offshore wind technology, Iberdrola can operate Windanker even more efficiently. Power purchase agreements (PPAs) with industrial and commercial customers are already in place for the electricity generated.

The Windanker offshore wind farm is an important building block in the integrated growth strategy that Iberdrola is pursuing in the German core market. Windanker is the third of three major offshore projects of the company in Germany and has an investment volume of 1 billion euros. In addition to Windanker, Iberdrola operates the Wikinger wind farm with 350 MW and the Baltic Eagle wind farm with 476 MW in the immediate vicinity. Together, these offshore wind farms form Iberdrola's "Baltic Hub". In 2026, the Baltic Hub will have a total capacity of more than 1.1 GW and will have triggered investments totaling around 3.7 billion euros. Since December 2024, the Japanese energy company Kansai has been financially involved in Windanker with a 49% stake. Iberdrola retains the majority in this partnership with 51%.
