A campaign that conveys the magic of Christmas and the importance of caring for nature

A little girl, a lanternfish and an illuminated Christmas in the middle of the sea. This is the essence of Iberdrola's Christmas advertising campaign, which combines the magic of the holiday season with a commitment to protecting our environment and preserving natural resources.

Our protagonists are a little girl and Roque, the lanternfish, both of whom have a clear mission: to bring Christmas to those who are farthest away. "See how they light up? Now it’s your turn," the girl says to Roque as he watches the flicker and the magic of the Christmas lights from his fishbowl, with his eyes filled with wonder. Until, finally, he is ready. 

Our charming fish enters the sea, ready to fulfill his mission, and, together with his companions, begins to transform the ocean into a starry sky. In the darkness of the night and amidst the waves, aboard a ship on the high seas, the fishermen are surprised when a light comes through the window. As they look out, they see millions of twinkling lights, like a Christmas tree.

A contented smile from a fisherman and a "Merry Christmas, Dad" are proof that the girl and Roque have achieved their longed-for mission of bringing magic to the high seas.

Thanks to help from the residents of the town of Luarca, we have brought this touching story to life. Under the slogan: "We take care of nature, because it brings light to our lives", the campaign seamlessly ties together the joy of the Christmas season with the importance of protecting the environment.

How was the campaign created?

The campaign was shot in the Asturian town of Luarca over three days. Don't miss these behind-the-scenes moments of the shoot with the story of our Christmas ad and How it was made.

Fun facts about the campaign

  •  Filming at sea proved challenging due to the size of the waves faced by the production team, the protagonists and even the drone, which struggled to return to the ship.
  • The crew that appears in the video is the real crew from the fishing vessel Gure Itxas Begi, which has been fishing in the Cantabrian Sea for more than 20 years.
  •  The soundtrack was composed by Fernando Velázquez and performed by the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM). 
  • It took more than four months to design Roque, our iconic protagonist.
