There is no official list with the best museums, but some of these museums are in all of the rankings prepared by experts and specialised magazines. Here are the most important museums:
Tate Modern External link, opens in new window. (London, United Kingdom): the former Bankside power plant became a museum in 2000. It exhibits the work of Picasso, Ernst, Chirico, Hewitt, Kapoor... The turbine room is one of the main halls where the temporary exhibitions are hosted.
Centre Pompidou External link, opens in new window. (Paris, France): more than 75,000 works of modern and contemporary art of different artists, such as Bacon, Miró, Modigliani, Matisse, Picasso or Cage.
Reina Sofía National Art Museum External link, opens in new window. (Madrid, Spain): Picasso's Guernica is one of the most emblematic works of art of a collection with more than 21,000 paintings. The work of Dalí, Miró, Lorca, Moore or Kandinsky is exhibited in MNCARS, among the work of other artists.
Guggenheim Museum External link, opens in new window. (Bilbao, Spain): the building of architect Frank Gehry is a work of art in itself. The collection includes paintings of Oteiza, Chillida, Serra, Basquiat, Badiola or Barceló.

MAC USP External link, opens in new window. (Sao Paulo, Brazil): the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of Sao Paulo has a full collection of modern art, with works of Klee, Chagall, Matisse, Kandinsky, Picasso or Miró, among other artists.
TMOCA External link, opens in new window. (Tehran, Iran): the largest collection of contemporary art out of Europe and America. Opened in 1977, it exhibits the work of Warhol, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bacon, Pollock, Giacometti or Gaugin.

(Singapore, Indonesia): the Singapore Art Museum has on exhibition what is considered as the best contemporary art collection in South East Asia, in addition to works of art from China, India, Korea and Japan. It was opened in 1996 in an old 19th century school.
