The chairs of Iberdrola
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Iberdrola-Avangrid and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have entered into a five-year collaboration in which Iberdrola will commit five million to the Iberdrola-Avangrid chair through the MIT Energy Iniciative .
The objective of this initiative is to to train a new generation of young professionals in power systems engineering to solve the current need for research and development into new technologies to combat climate change.
This collaboration between Iberdrola - an example of the potential of the electricity sector - and a prestigious university like MIT is ideal for developing solutions that allow the transition toward the clean energy of the future.
Comillas Pontifical University
The Iberdrola Chair in Energy and Innovation of the Comillas Pontifical University - ICAI was created in October 2012 with the following goals:
- To be an instrument for formalising a stable partnership agreement between the University and Iberdrola to carry out research, innovation and training activities in fields of knowledge of strategic interest to Iberdrola.
- The creation of university-Iberdrola link to render a strategic nature to this alliance within the field of innovative knowledge creation and transfer that goes beyond the strictly economic area.
- To be a tool that enables the university to boost research, development, innovation and teaching, as well as work for different social and cultural causes without having to provide full-time personnel of university.
The Iberdrola Chair of Economic and Business Ethics was established in November 2018 with the following objectives:
- Promote the study and dissemination of the concepts and principles related to business and professional ethics in all areas.
- Develop different lines of research in this area, constituting a meeting point between the academic world and the business world.
- Carry out activities to disseminate and share the research and studies conducted through seminars, meetings, lectures and publications.
- Create a link between the University and Iberdrola that will allow the alliance to be strategic in the field of creation and transfer of innovative knowledge and, therefore, go beyond the strictly economic sphere.
The Chair, which already has a 15-year history of reflection and research on issues related to business ethics and corporate social responsibility, will initially run for three academic years. José Luis Fernández, professor at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences (Comillas ICADE), will continue as director, and two Iberdrola executives will participate: Dolores Herrera, Compliance Director, and Agustín Delgado, Innovation, Sustainability and Quality Director.
In addition, Iberdrola, through its Foundation in Spain, the Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT) and the Comillas Pontifical University have set up the STEM Women's Sustainability Mobility Chair. Its main objectives are:
- Promotion of women in STEM vocations (an acronym that covers careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics), in particular, in the field of vocational training for sustainable mobility, giving them the means necessary for their development.
- Research into the causes of the low participation of women in studies related to STEM areas.
- Evaluation of the degree of adaptation of the academic content to the needs for filling positions in EMT and Iberdrola.
- Promotion of the cultural and social change needed to encourage the involvement of women.
- Preparation of a study on employability, quality and success profiles in STEM grades.
Iberdrola and EMT will finance the cost of the Chair, while the Comillas Pontifical University will make its centres available for all educational activities.
Over the next two years, among other already defined actions, reports will be drawn up analysing the situation in Spain and other countries with successful initiatives, vocational guidance days will be held for girls and young women, interdisciplinary workshops will be held to promote the development of these skills, and collaboration will be sought in the development of projects that generate research and innovation in the field of education with the aim of promoting STEM skills.
The first meeting of the working group took place in October 2020 and was attended by H.M. Queen Letizia.
