East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm
East Anglia TWO, one step closer to the energy transition
Offshore wind United Kingdom Scotland Iberdrola projects
The Iberdrola Group, through its UK subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, has begun construction of its East Anglia TWO offshore wind farm. Located in the southern North Sea, East Anglia TWO will have an operational capacity of up to 960 MW, enough to supply the equivalent of 950,000 homes with clean energy.

East Anglia TWO Project

East Anglia TWO, the last of four projects to be developed in East Anglia, is owned entirely by ScottishPower Renewables. This offshore wind farm, located in the North Sea, some 32.6 km off the coast of Suffolk and 37.5 km from Lowestoft, has the potential to make a substantial contribution to the UK's 2030 energy targets.
With a total installed capacity of 960 MW, enough to power around 950,000 homes, it will meet almost 5% of the UK's cumulative offshore wind deployment targets by 2030. Construction of East Anglia TWO is expected to begin in 2027 and come online in 2028, with a 25-year lifespan.
Job creation in all phases of the project, diversification and the capacity to generate its own energy, low CO₂ emissions, energy security and decarbonisation are some of the benefits of East Anglia TWO.
East Anglia TWO value chain
With the goal of creating employment, ScottishPower Renewables selected the port of Great Yarmouth, in Norfolk, for the wind farm’s pre-assembly work. The standby contract signed between the UK subsidiary and Peel Ports Great Yarmouth will allow Siemens Gamesa's turbines to be assembled prior to being set up in the North Sea in 2028.
Taylor Woodrow was brought in to supply civil engineering works for the onshore substation, which will be in Friston, near Saxmundham, Suffolk. Through the contract the leading construction company will carry out works including road improvements, landscaping and protection. An anticipated 80 jobs will be created during the term of the agreement
The company OCU has been contracted to carry out the Civil Engineering works for the overland cable corridor works. Its objective is to install two sets of buried ducts from the ground arrival point to the onshore substation, ensuring that the high voltage cables will not be visible once they are installed in the ducts. OCU will be assisted by its UK subsidiary Peter McCormack & Sons Ltd, which will carry out complex horizontal directional drilling to install two sets of cable ducts deep in the sea cliffs at the cable arrival point, connecting the subsea section of the cables to the onshore cables.
ScottishPower Renewables has awarded an EPC contract for the wind farm's offshore substation to HSM Offshore Energy, which includes engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning. The high-voltage substation will weigh 5,100 tonnes and construction is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025.
The same Dutch company will also be responsible for the 3,700 tonne "jacket" foundation for the East Anglia TWO wind turbines, which is expected to be ready for installation in the third quarter of 2027.
Technical characteristics
- Up to 75 wind turbines will be installed over an area of 218.4 km².
- The wind farm will have up to four offshore power platforms, connected by platform link cables to collect electricity.
- Submarine cables will connect the turbines to the offshore electricity platform.
- The onshore substation where the energy generated at the offshore wind farm will be fed
Iberdrola, world leader in renewable energies
At Iberdrola, we dare committed to renewable energy more than two decades ago as a fundamental pillar on which to build our safe, clean and competitive business model. Thanks to this vision, we are today world leaders in renewables, reaching 44,478 MW of clean energy in operation at the end of 2024.
This commitment is reflected in our Strategic Plan, in which we will allocate €15.5bn gross to renewables. More than half of this amount is focused on offshore wind in the US, UK, France and Germany; 28% on onshore wind and 18% on solar.
